Ladies - I know I just wrote a long post on how to improve your hair, but I must review this hair product before you go to the store to buy this seemingly latest and greatest thing.
I love hair products. I am always on the hunt for something that makes it easier to style or manage my hair. If something will cut down my style time, I will jump on it. I heard about Living Proof Prime Style Extender and jumped on it. It has RAVE reviews on Sephora.com, from people being able to hold a curl after years of stubbornly straight hair, people who were finally able to keep their hair straight after timeless struggles with curls and frizz, and those who were able to go an extra day with their style without washing their hair because their hair stayed fresh.
I was not too concerned about getting a product that will keep my hair straight or curly. I was looking for something that would keep my hair from getting oily so I could go an extra day or two without having to wash. This was something I am most interested in for when I straighten my hair - after going through all that trouble, I want it to last more than a couple of days and I wanted it to look good.
Soooo - I was REALLY excited to try this product. But, to sum it up quickly - it had to go back to the store. When I was returning this to Sephora, I had a discussion with the cashier, who had thick Asian hair, and we concluded that maybe this product was just not made for thicker Asian hair. I was very, very sad.
So - what did the product do for me? I applied it generously as instructed, let my hair air dry, and then flat ironed. I hope hope HOPED this product would make my style last for 3-4 days. If I am very careful, I can usually go without washing straightened hair for 3 days, but by the third day it is definitely oily. At the least, I thought this product would keep my hair looking a little fresher on the third day. Unfortunately, it didn't make a difference.
The one positive effect I did notice was that I never had to "refresh" my hair with another run of the flat iron day after day. At night, the bottom layer of my hair inevitably curls, and my hair gets bent this way and that because of how I sleep. Because of that, I usually have to straighten parts of my hair again. When I used the Style Extender, I definitely did not have to do anything to my hair. I could just get out of bed, run a brush through my hair, and be ready to go. That was a GREAT feature of the product and the product very much lived up to the claim that it would preserve your style.
But, at 20 bucks, it was not worth it to me. I think this may be better for you gals out there with finer hair, or more concerned about holding a style rather than going an extra day with it. The beautiful thing about this product is that a) Living Proof's website has free returns, and b) Sephora lets you return anything you are dissatisfied with, so you have the opportunity to try it out and take it back if it does not work as expected. Or, you can get a sample from Sephora. So, even though it did not work for me, I really think this is worth trying, and you can do so without risk.
I hope it works better for you! :)
